£15m development Skyline Chambers was deemed unsafe after a recent investigation revealed serious fire safety concerns
Hundreds of residents who were told to move out of their apartments due to a severe fire risk are still living in hotels weeks later - with no idea when they could return home.
READ MORE "It's a huge shock...": Residents told to evacuate £15million city centre apartments due to 'severe hazard' Following a further independent investigation at the building, facilitated by the freeholder Wallace Estates, it found a further fire risk in the internal courtyard. Wallace say they took 'immediate action' in evacuating residents and is 'prioritising remediation works' for residents to return home.
One renter, who asked not to be named, has told the M.E.N that they are still living in a nearby Hilton hotel weeks after being told to move out on October 6. From there, they have been sourced a temporary flat from November 18 until January 5. "This situation was an absolute shock. There was lots of commotion. We had a family with a newborn baby living above us as well as people heading to work. Another tenant who had just finished a 18-hour shift was handed a document in the hallway saying she needed to evacuate her accommodation."
Wallace Estates have denied awareness and responsibility for the existence of the current fire safety defects at the building and blamed those 'responsible for signing off the building' in the first place when the plans were granted in 2006. The Manchester Evening News understands this was not Manchester City Council, but rather a third-party building control assessor.
