The introduction of new regulations by both the WEC and the IMSA SportsCar Championship have brought an unprecedented number of manufacturers to the top echelon of sportscar racing, with Porsche, Toyota, Peugeot, Ferrari, BMW, Cadillac, Acura, Lamborghini, Alpine and Glickenhaus all having confirmed factory programmes for the coming seasons.

“And once you do the car it's going to be fixed for five years. So I think that is addressing the biggest problem for manufacturers to not keep spending this amount of money they are spending now on building [the car] because it's just going to be steady [later]. “I think endurance racing always had different waves, like manufacturers came and went,” Bernhard told Autosport. “I'm happy that now it looks like a golden era again of endurance racing with more manufacturers coming in.
