Each week, dozens of defendants pass through Lancashire's courts

Among them were a Preston shopkeeper who was caught with hundreds of illegal vapes, and the owner of a house of horrors in Leyland where more than 100 seriously neglected pet rats were rescued.

Lancashire County Council's Trading Standards team took action on Friday against Arif Patel and Euro News Limited, the company behind EN Newsagents on Orchard Street in the city centre. Charges were brought against the 43-year-old and the company connected with the supply of disposable e-cigarettes containing more than the maximum amount of 2ml of nicotine-containing liquid prescribed by law.

Callum Roberts inflicted the 'sickening attack' while engaging in a campaign of 'spontaneous violence in and around pubs in Blackburn' with pal Liam Donlin. The pair have now both been jailed 'despite most victims and witnesses being reluctant to give evidence'. Judge David Aubrey KC said: "There was an altercation between you and your victim, during which you made certain comments that, in the court's judgement, aggravates the seriousness of this offence. You returned and set fire to the contents of the wheelie bin using an accelerant and a lighter. Fortunately the contents were attended to almost immediately and so it was... no real harm was occasioned by that which you had done. Nonetheless any form of arson is an extremely serious offence.

Now the 33-year-old has been suspended for six months following an investigation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council . Morgan, from Woolton, worked at the Arrowe Park hospital on Merseyside as a band 5 registered nurse. According to a NMC fitness to practise committee report, as a result of unaccounted medication losses, covert cameras were set up in the medication room of the hospital in Birkenhead, Wirral, in June 2021.
