Since April last year, more than 37,000 people have rushed to top up over 68,000 years of NI contributions

The clock is ticking for Brits to fill in any gaps in their National Insurance record and secure a larger State Pension , with just two months remaining to take action. Since April of the previous year, more than 37,000 individuals have hurried to top up more than 68,000 years of NI, adding an impressive £35 million to their future pensions, as per recent figures from HMRC.

This could mean they haven't accumulated the 35 years of NI contributions needed to receive the maximum new state pension or the 30 years required for the lower basic state pension. At present, Britons can boost their State Pension payments by filling in NI payment gaps dating back to 2006, but this scheme is set to conclude on April 5, 2025.

* Significant financial benefits – The largest State Pension increase recorded to date is a substantial £113.76 extra per week – an annual rise of nearly £6,000! Angela MacDonald, Deputy Chief Executive of HMRC, has called on pensioners to act swiftly, stating: "There are just two months left to check and fill any gaps in your National Insurance record from 2006 onwards. Don't delay – it could make a huge difference to your finances in retirement."
