Gavin Breakwell has been looking after Blackpool's streets for the last five years and revealed the weirdest things he's come across
A Blackpool resident has urged day trippers and tourists to look after Blackpool and clean up after themselves when they visit the resort - and revealed the weirdest things he's come across while he goes about his work in the community.In that time, he has found a wide range of offending items buried in the sand and on the streets, including, needles, tyres, dead animals, glass and much more. He is asking those coming to the town to just bin their rubbish.
Gavin moved to Blackpool six years ago. Since then he has dedicated his time to helping keep the town clean, patrolling the streets and beaches up to three times a week and sorting out the rubbish. He says earlier this year he even spotted a dead sheep as well as some dead birds on the beach, which he reported to the council.
"It's not as bad at the moment because its winter, but from around Easter up until around after the fireworks in October, it's so busy. At this time of year I can do all of the beach but in the summer, I can only focus on between North and Central Piers because it is so bad. Recently, Blackpool Council announced that every street in the town is now being inspected once a month as part of work to ensure the town is kept litter free.
