The Pan-American Masters Games start this week, with thousands of athletes and their supporters coming in from all over the world. Here’s what Saturday’s welcome celebration and subsequent farewell celebration entails for the public.
The Pan-American Masters Games start this week, with thousands of athletes and their supporters coming in from all over the world. Saturday’s welcome celebration is set for Mall C downtown.CLEVELAND, Ohio – An international smorgasbord of athletes, visitors, friends and family are set to converge in Cleveland for the Pan-American Masters Games, which will kick off the celebrations with a free festival on Saturday, July 13.
This is the first time the Games – July 12-21 - are being held in the United States. Organizers use a rotation for the games, which are held throughout world regions. Competitors ages 30 and older participate in a variety of sports and activities from baseball to pickleball, archery to orienteering, soccer to softball and many others. Multiple venues throughout Greater Cleveland are hosting sports.is scheduled 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday on Mall C.
Performances and entertainment include the John Marshall Drumline, Cleveland 216 Stix and Cavs Scream Team. Event emcees are Ahmaad Crump, in-arena host for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Gabriella Kreuz, in-game host for the Cleveland Guardians. The Pan-American Masters Games’ athlete oath will be said in various languages with speakers including Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Food trucks, a beer garden, mascots, vendor booths, yard games, live music and morewill be included. Area tourism attractions will have representatives on site to offer information about what Cleveland has to offer for the athletes and visitors.is slated for Saturday, July 21, on Mall C with a community 5K at 7:30 a.m. The celebration is expected to run from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
