Nearly half the teams in the NBA will have a chance to win the No. 1 pick on Tuesday night during the 2023 draft lottery – and the opportunity to add Victor Wembanyama. But how does he fit on each team? And how much fun would each scenario bring?
For now, let’s say everyone but Trent is back, although I think the Raptors could look to trade Siakam, especially in this scenario. The starting lineup would be VanVleet, Barnes, Anunoby, Siakam and … Poeltl. Wembanyama as the sixth man?
OK, that seems impossible. I do think the Raptors bring back Poeltl to lighten the physical toll Wembanyama would take, making Siakam the likely odd man out with the return for him in a trade filling out the bench. VanVleet, Anunoby, Wembanyama and Poeltl? That would be fun. Can you imagine the latter three on the back end of a zone defense? We are looking at Nathan Peterman’s pass completion percentages for the opponents.Once more, this entirely depends on who is on the roster.
The Raptors would gradually incorporate Wembanyama and have him focus on just a few skills at a time, given they have capable mid-career veterans at every position except for shooting guard. Wembanyama’s readiness would determine how much the Raptors would allow him to do in his rookie season.I’ll give it an 8. There are fit questions about this roster that Wembanyama doesn’t solve.
