As part of moves to cut costs at the local authority, WDGC has now been offered the opportunity to take over the running of the facility - but fear it could increase operating costs by more than £30,000 annually.

West Dunbartonshire Gymnastics Club welcomes more than 100 youngsters to its Brucehill base every week.

They also worry that the Brucehill venue will be forced to close if they don’t take on the responsibility, and are appealing to potential sponsors to help finance a takeover - or find an alternative venue. “Our objective every year is to break even and any profits we do make are re-invested back into the club.

“We can appreciate that the council is struggling and is under significant cost pressures but it feels a bit like our hand is being forced because we don’t have anywhere else to go. “There are children one-and-a-half years to 14 and 15. The majority of our gymnasts then become young volunteers, we mentor them and put them through qualifications. So there is that side of it as well.
