San Antonio health district officials confirm a mosquito pool near the intersection of Ray Ellison Boulevard and Loop 410 tested positive for the virus.
The return of the summer heat has everyone gathering by pools and local waterways — including pesky mosquitos. With the city confirming its first positive test of West Nile Virus in a mosquito pool this year, it is important residents take proper precautions to avoid getting bit, officials say. The Metropolitan Health District confirmed the positive test on May 15.
Mosquitos lay eggs in stagnate or slow-moving water, so residents should eliminate water sources, such as uncovered boats, open trash bins, fountains and bird baths. Other sources of potential infections include clogged rain gutters, potted plant saucers, water bowls for pets, buckets and barrels, leaky hoses, wagons and other toys, neglected pools, ponds and rot holes in trees, city officials said.
