Western Sydney locals are one step closer to a having a Metro line after the completion of a"critical" component of the railway in the multibillion-dollar transport project.

The structure, known as a"viaduct", took more than 2,500 workers to build over the course of 16 months. Speaking at a media conference on Monday morning, NSW Premier Chris Minns said the Metro line would serve as a first-ever public transport connection for some parts of Western Sydney. "The metro line to the airport costs twice as much as the new airport, but this is much-needed public transport infrastructure that the state will use for many, many years into the future," Mr Minns said. The NSW government hopes to finish the airport metro line prior to the opening of the under-construction Western Sydney Airport in 2026.
