The camp is preparing students for ACAP testing while also letting them enjoy their time off from school.DOTHAN, Ala. - Across the Wiregrass area, students are out of school for Spring Break. The Westgate Park and Recreation Center is hosting a Spring Break Camp that is preparing kids for ACAP testing while having fun.
ACAP is the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program, which focuses on multiple subjects, including money. To prepare students, counselors at the Spring Break Camp set up stores and give students money from doing jobs around the camp. The students are then asked to count the money and spend it, to help them get a general idea of money.
”I love my job, I love working with kids. I love to enrich their minds, I like to do stuff with them. Because I want to be a teacher and this is giving me a good experience of what I want to do in the future. This has a big impact because they meet new people and they have new opportunities to meet a lot of people from different cultures,” Makayla Reynolds, a high school counselor, expressed.
