Around 7,000 litres of water are being pumped out of the reservoir every second.
The reservoir held back by the damaged Whaley Bridge dam is now less than half full but authorities warn a risk of a catastrophic collapse remains.
The dam overlooks the village of Whaley Bridge where more than 1,500 residents were evacuated after part of the dam wall suddenly collapsed. ‘Together with partners, we attended a meeting with local residents yesterday to discuss the latest developments and will continue to update everyone with the latest progress.
On Monday, Derbyshire’s police and crime commissioner, Hardyal Dhindsa, acknowledged that locals had faced a ‘big disruption’ but maintained that anyone who remained within the evacuation zone was risking their life.
