On my 45-minute train to work, I am on my emails, replying to everything and making sure I’m all set for when I arrive at the office. It really means my time in the office is way more productive and I can hit the ground running.I get my coffee on the ground floor of the office. I usually see a lot of people I have been meaning to chat with in the queue. I have a lot of interesting conversations there.
For that reason, if I was going through an intense time at work, I deliberately plan something at the weekend with my family, and not go on my phone. I have to be present and not think about emails. That helps.Around three nights a week, I have to attend events that will run until the evening. They might be external speaking events or networking events.I arrive home. I eat the food I have batch-cooked at the weekend.
I’ve always thought that you can’t quite have it all. You can have a job you love that is demanding. You can be an active parent. But something else usually has to give. For me, it’s going to the gym. I cancelled my gym membership when I realised I was paying £246 per swim in the pool.
