Considered one of the world’s oldest team sports, pelota is still played by indigenous communities in parts of Central America, although the use of balls made from the remains of politicians is one tradition that has not stood the test of time. In line with the face is a scroll, which may be interpreted as breath or voice,” said archaeologist Santiago Alberto Sobrino Fernández, one of the archaeologists involved in the discovery.
“In this Mayan site, it is rare to find hieroglyphic writing, let alone a complete text. This hasn’t happened in 11 years ,” he added.
