The UK is making contingency plans to hold elections for the European Parliament, in case Brexit isn't achieved in time.

Economists must 'apologise' for Brexit doom

Turnout for European elections in the UK is historically low, but the political climate could mean more people decide to cast their votes this time.European parliamentarians, MEPs, are voted in at the end of May and take up their seats at the beginning of July.So if the UK pulls out of the EU by the end of June, the newly elected MEPs will then lose their seats again.

Under electoral law, the elections can be called off as late as the day before polling day, which would be 22 May, so if a deal can go through before then, Britons will not have to vote.
