Everything you need to know ahead of Thursday's 2024 NFL Draft.
NFL Draft week is upon us. And while the Chicago Bears are largely expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick, the questions — and domino effects — begin at No. 2, where the Washington Commanders could go a couple of ways.
The person taking calls is in Arizona at No. 4 and sitting pretty with all options in the Cardinals’ control. General manager Monti Ossenfort is no stranger to trading back from the top of the draft, having moved out of No. 3 in 2023, and it looks like he will have another great opportunity for a similar move.
All implied probability will remove the vig from the betting market to give a more accurate probability chance that the player is drafted at that position. Crowd-sourced odds are via BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel and Bet365.It’s been assumed the top four QBs are Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy, but don’t be surprised if Michael Penix Jr. enters the discussion come Thursday.
The Chiefs could trade with the Atlanta Falcons, who have the eighth pick. One scenario would have the Chiefs sending the Falcons the 32nd pick, the 95th pick and their 2025 first-round pick. In exchange, the Chiefs would receive the eighth pick and the 109th pick. Pro Football Focus’ mock draft simulator estimated that the Chiefs’ trade offer had a 75 percent chance of being accepted.
Such a move could allow the Chiefs to select Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham. Brugler believes Latham, his 13th-best prospect, is a stronger, more athletic version of Darnell Wright, whom the Bears selected with the 10th pick last year.No position generates more interest — and with it, passion — than quarterback, and opinions might vary more this year than in any I can remember. I know NFL people who view Maye and Michigan’s J.J.
I think he can improve on some of these things, but it’s going to take time, and it requires a leap of faith that I’m not ready to make. Therefore, I would be nervous about selecting him in the top five. I just don’t see elite traits beyond his measurables.Think back to the quarterback landscape two years ago around this time.
We’ll see what the Lions end up doing, but GM Brad Holmes won’t take a corner he isn’t in love with early just because people are tying him to one. As for the names to watch during the draft, the list in play at pick 18 narrows significantly as a feel for the top 10 comes into focus. I’ll also offer 10 names in play for the second round, third and then on Day 3 based on likely positional focus, profile type, historical lean and attention paid during the pre-draft process..
For one last time before things kick off, our NFL reporters gathered for a virtual mock draft to play the role of general manager and select players for their respective teams. While the top quarterbacks expectedly flew off the board early, quite a few of our reporters made first-round trades to grab the prospects they coveted most. Here’s how it all went down.Minnesota Vikings : J.J.
A sizable number of the top prospects, those who could be acquired Thursday or Friday night during Rounds 2 and 3, fit into one of the Chiefs’ positional needs and would also have a specific role within the team’s scheme during their rookie season. The 2014 NFL Draft wouldn’t happen for months, but according to Steve Gera, at least one Cleveland Browns executive had his mind made up on one of its most polarizing prospects.
