Here's what we know about how a proposed four-day working week could unfold

But the Government’s plans could shift that balance of power, the report says, instead placing a legal obligation on companies to offer flexible working from day one except for where doing so is “not reasonably feasible”. It also means workers could enjoy greater powers to get their bosses to agree to them completing their full week’s worth of hours – for example by starting earlier and finishing later – between Monday and Thursday, allowing them to take Friday off.
A spokesperson for the Department for Business and Trade said: “We have no plans to impose a four-day working week on employers or employees. Any changes to employment legislation will be consulted on, working in partnership with business. “Flexible working options such as compressed hours and term-time working can support more people to stay in the workforce and boost productivity, whether keeping parents in their jobs or helping those juggling caring responsibilities for older relatives.”
