Beginning in 1987, Reeves Callaway ofin Old Lyme, Connecticut, began building twin-turbo Corvettes in a unique collaboration with Chevrolet : Anybody could order a Callaway Twin-Turbo Corvette from a Chevy dealership by simply checking the box for the “B2K” twin-turbo option.
The crowning achievement was partly the result of a serious engine-building program by John Lingenfelter .
The Sledgehammer marked the first use of Callaway’s aerobody kit and made of GE’s new Xenoy plastic resin technology Aerobody-equipped B2K Callaway Corvettes sell at auction on average for $62,700, while non-aerobody-equipped B2K twin-turbo Callaway Corvettes average $22,175, a difference of $40,525
