There is so much misinformation out there'
Fozia Shah Netmums Voice Fozia Shah has a law degree and completed the Legal Practice Course but decided to become a stay-at-home mum after the birth of her second daughter. She lives in Cambridgeshire with her husband and their two daughters, aged 13 and 7.
The media currently seem to relish any negative news about Muslims, no matter how small, and the comments left on these articles clearly show the hatred that there is in some people’s hearts. They both go three times a week and, although initially the eldest wasn’t sure about it, she enjoys going and even looks forward to it. This is because both girls have a good relationship with their teacher and the lessons are made fun.
With my eldest now praying five times a day , we have to come straight home after school so she can make up her missed afternoon one. However you do notice a subtle difference in the way people perceive you, especially if you also wear cultural clothes rather than ‘Western’ outfits. Some think maybe you can’t speak English or that you are uneducated. It used to annoy me but now it just saddens me that people are still so judged by what they wear.
My child took part in the Nativity and, although we don’t celebrate Christmas, we love the festive atmosphere and often go to see the Christmas lights and eat lots of chocolate! Yes there may be some who hate it but I have come across plenty of non-Muslims who hate it, too.
