One in four trains into Paris is cancelled on the opening day of the Olympics after a co-ordinated attack on the French rail system
When the wiry representative from GB taekwondo hastily left his seat and purposely walked down the carriage, it was a sign that patience on board the Eurostar had worn very thin. His is a sport in which self-control was a key tenet. And who knows what sort of damage he could have done to a hapless conductor.
At Lille, the conductor informed us that we would be moving “shortly”. Relative to what remained a mystery. But at least there was a prospect of moving. It wasn’t Eurostar’s fault, of course. This was apparently a co-ordinated attack on signal boxes, designed for maximum impact, but with minimal damage to human life.
