Manchester United and Spurs may well view the Europa League as their best route to next season’s Champions League
, the Europa League has a new look this season, with a 36-team league phase comprising of just one big table.
The winners of those play-offs, taking place in February, will then join the top eight teams in March’s round of 16.Currently just a point above Rangers and Spurs in the table, United are seventh with 12 points after three wins and three draws. Spurs travel to Hoffenheim on 23 January and then host Elfsborg a week later, and two wins should be enough to finish in the top eight – anything less makes that far from a guarantee.
