The contents of the note were revealed as part of a two-week inquest into the deaths of Charmaine McLeod and her four children.

A Queensland mother killed in a horrific crash with her four children wrote in an eight-page note she finally had the “courage to stand and report my abusive husband”, and blamed the justice system for not helping her.

According to his statement provided to the coroner, the overtaken truck driver saw McLeod while driving about 7.30pm. “The truck coming in the opposite direction had all its lights on, he said, and he said that he couldn’t tell which side of the road the truck was on.” Aaleyn was thrown from the SUV, and was struggling to breathe when another driver came to help her, as other motorists put out grass fires.A man and his wife called emergency services, as they made sure Aaelyn did not get burnt by the fire.

The court has heard police found McLeod’s alleged complaints of domestic violence were uncorroborated. A man close to McLeod also gave evidence he had concerns about alleged sexual assaults of the children, claiming one of the boys had come to him saying: “Daddy touched my doodle”.
