What Justin Frye said about Ohio State's offensive line recruiting.

Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. committed to Tennessee over Ohio State, and while the Buckeyes were on the doorstep of landing the No. 2 prospect in the 2025 class, close isn’t what the offensive line crop needed.

“It’s still all about in my mind, in our mind, the evaluation,” Frye said. “You have to be a guy that can come here and grow and perform and play. The changing has really been with the NIL landscape, and so figuring out what that piece really is, how vested and how far you have to be in that, what’s their priorities...Is that 40, is that 60? Is that 90? I mean that’s off our evaluation of what we have. So the game of football hasn’t changed. Recruiting changed.

In any case, there’s work to be done in trying to flip targets from other schools, or make offers to prospects that don’t currently hold Ohio State offers. “Yeah, we had Paris , he was your national five-star guy, but then we had two other draft picks there that, Dawand wasn’t a five-star guy, right? Luke wasn’t a five-star guy,” Frye said. “They’re good players and they got developed those guys before I got here. All the guys on the wall.

But over the course of the season, he improved each week to a point where now, a year later, Simmons ending up as a day one or two draft choice isn’t outlandish.
