There is momentum for recognising a Palestinian state but doubts remain over whether it would help resolve the decades-long conflict

Recognising Palestinian statehood may also create better accountability and put more pressure on Israel to end the war. Fawaz Gerges, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science , and Professor in Contemporary Middle East Studies said Tuesday was important because Ireland, Spain and Norway are close allies of the United States – a key ally of Israel – and also had good relations with Israel.
