Rishi Sunak will travel to the European Political Community summit on Thursday, where he is expected to renew calls for more joint working across the continent to tackle the mass movement of asylum seekers singharj reports

Robert Jenrick is meanwhile visiting Tunisia and Algeria this week to highlight work by police from the National Crime Agency to help north African countries identify and break up people smuggling gangs amid warnings thousands of asylum seekers could try to leave for Europe this summer.

They also agreed to “ join efforts to strengthen our engagement” with “countries of origin and transit along all main migration routes” and to pay specific attention to “cutting the roots of organised criminality” that facilitates people smuggling in Africa. “Just as we’ve deepened diplomatic and security co-operation on illegal migration with France, Italy and Albania, we are working to enhance our cooperation with other key transit and source countries for migration to tackle this shared challenge.Mr Sunak is likely to use the EPC summit to renew calls to reform the European Convention on Human Rights after the Strasbourg court that presides over it frustrated the Government’s efforts to begin deporting Channel asylum seekers to Rwanda last year.
