England captain Harry Kane said ahead of the quarter-final that belief is building that their squad is good enough to win the World Cup.
The Tottenham striker, who scored his first goal of the tournament against Senegal, said: “Looking back in 2018, we didn’t really know what to expect from the group. “We went there with belief we could win it, but it was almost a new experience. We got to the semi-finals and everyone was over the moon, but whether we had full belief to go and win the tournament, I am not sure.To get a shot at glory, of course, the Three Lions will have to get past Mbappe first.
So far, the 23-year-old superstar has played four, scored five and assisted two in Qatar, and his threat loomed before England even progressed to the last eight – the squad watched the final stages ofHowever, they are not allowing thoughts of Mbappe to dominate the build up, with Luke Shaw saying: “It would be naive of us to focus purely on him.
“They are world champions for a reason, because they have brilliant players all over the whole pitch, so we are not going to fully focus on him.”
