Pfizer’s cancer drug Adcetris extended survival in patients with a common form of lymphoma in a late-stage trial, the company announced Tuesday, supporting Pfizer’s efforts to expand into cancer treatments amid declining Covid vaccine sales.
The treatment also increased the number of people who reported partial decreases in the amount of cancer in the body or a disappearance of all signs of cancer, according to Pfizer. An early trial involving more than 1,300 patients treated with Adcetris and chemotherapy indicated 82% of patients lived without their disease worsening after two years, while patients also had a higher chance of surviving for four years when compared with another cancer drug ,
Patients using Adcetris could experience nausea, vomiting, increased body temperature and peripheral sensory neuropathy, which affects nerves in the hands, feet and arms, according to the FDA.of lymphoma, accounting for about 25% of all non-Hodgkin lymphoma cases globally. The disease is an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma which affects white blood cells that create antibodies to fight infections.
