Russian linked mercenary groups are active in Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Niger and Libya

The mercenary group did not say how many of its fighters were believed to have been killed but several Russian military bloggers reported on Sunday that at least 20 were killed in an ambush near the Algerian border, while a local official cited by AFP said at least 15 Wagner fighters were killed or captured.controlled private military groups are continuing to provide security for African dictatorships in exchange for natural resources, minerals and preferential business arrangements.

Since the fall of Prigozhin, Wagner’s Africa operations are co-ordinated by the Russian Ministry of Defence’s GRU, who controls the country’s military intelligence service and its Africa Corp department which is active in Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Niger and Libya, according to analysts.
