New details about the plans for Old Trafford, a new train line from Manchester to Liverpool and a football regulator have been revealed

Major speeches, announcements and protests have taken place on the second day of the Labour Party conference.

The Salford City owner also hit out at the Premier League over its position on the government's plans to set up a football regulator. The organisation has dismissed claims it is acting like a 'bully' over the move. No return to austerity Rachel Reeves has ruled out a return to austerity in her first Labour Party conference speech as Chancellor.

The Chancellor went on to defend decisions she has made so far - including cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment and pay rises for public sector workers. She also reiterated her party's promise not to raise taxes on working people. To make the ambitions a reality, a freight rail terminal situated behind Old Trafford needs to be moved to free land up. Mr Burnham has called on the government to fund plans to connect the under-construction ‘Parkside’ terminal on the St Helens-Wigan border to the West Coast Main Line - thought to cost in the hundreds of millions of pounds.

She said that once the law is passed in Parliament, a new regulator will put systems in place to help clubs that are in peril. But she said that the Football Governance Bill does not guarantee that all clubs will always be saved.
