WhatsApp has issued a warning to users, urging them to take immediate action if they receive suspicious messages. The app advises users not to engage with these messages by responding, tapping on links, or forwarding them. Instead, WhatsApp recommends blocking and reporting the sender and updating privacy settings to control group additions.
WhatsApp users have been issued a warning by app bosses, who are urging people to act immediately in certain circumstances. As the world’s leading messaging platform, WhatsApp sees over 100 billion messages sent daily, and now Meta has issued an alert to its vast user base.
In a post on its official X account, WhatsApp said: "message from unknown sender that feels... off? here are some tips on what you can do." Users are advised to not engage but instead "don't respond, tap, or forward the message, block and report the sender update your privacy settings to control who adds you to groups".
While WhatsApp is free to use, there are certain rules and regulations you need to follow. Users are reminded not to send copyrighted material, as legal implications could follow if the creator files a complaint. As well as this, sharing adult content can lead to legal trouble should complaints arise within a group chat. Additionally, as previously reported by the Liverpool Echo., sending excessive messages could get your WhatsApp account banned - as bosses caution against sending "bulk messages".
