Bob Sheridan did not seek help to deal with the trauma of his childhood until he was in his 60s. When he decided to champion a cause dear to his heart, he did not imagine the impact it would have.

"I kept quiet about it because of the shame and the stigma," he said.

He hopes people in younger generations don't end up waiting until later in life to seek the help they need.Mr Sheridan said he was surprised by how many people opened up to him on his journey about their own experience with mental health. "Then they would share their story about mental health and suicide in their family and stuff like that with me."

"I thought, if they can get out of bed with their mental health issues and show that resilience to get through the day, then I can get up in the morning when it's minus three and ride my bike to support these guys.
