The Cowboys’ front office is understanding of the financial desires of CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and Prescott. That doesn’t make the situation any less difficult.
Prescott desires to retire with the franchise that drafted him but is comfortable knowing it might not end that way. Prescott, entering the final year of his deal, expects to get a fair market value contract if he doesn’t get an extension this year.“And totally respect that,” said Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ executive vice president. “So very difficult situations that we’re trying to work through with them. They want to win.
“I want to be here but when you look up all the great quarterbacks that I watched, played for other teams,” Prescott said. “So my point in saying that it’s not something to fear. It may be a reality for me one day. It may not be my decision. The freedom that I have is be where your feet are, make the most of it, be confident in yourself, make your team better. I love my teammates I love that locker room.
Said Stephen Jones: “So I think he wants to go out, show that he is the best non-quarterback in the league and I hope he does it. But these things just take time and we’re having great conversations with them. It’s certainly not easy.”The quarterback position takes such a chunk out of salary caps. Prescott commands 21.5% of the Cowboys’ cap.
