A group of whisky enthusiasts spent a staggering £159,000 at The Fife Arms hotel in Scotland, indulging in rare and expensive bottles. The bill, which went viral on social media, highlights the high cost of premium whisky and luxury hospitality.
A group of whisky enthusiasts incurred a hefty bill of nearly £159,000 after indulging in Scotland 's National Drink at the luxurious Fife Arms hotel. Located in the Aberdeenshire village of Braemar, the award-winning Fife Arms is renowned for its stylish interiors, multiple bars, and fine dining restaurants. This five-star establishment recently made headlines for a staggering receipt showcasing the cost of a whisky tasting session for a group of visitors.
The photo of the receipt, amounting to a breathtaking £158,914, has swiftly gained traction on social media. The most expensive item on the bill is £67,500 spent on a Balvenie 50-year-old whisky, priced at £4,500 per dram from the 15 they ordered. According to Balvenie, this 50-year-old cask exudes aromas of 'deep fruits, cassis, and candied apricots' and flavors of 'caramelised fruits, rich spice, and soft vanilla'. The customers also splashed out £40,000 on Laphroaig 1940s Unpeated, ordering 10 drams of this rare, unpeated bottling at £4,000 each. Other noteworthy expensive whiskies on the bill include £12,750 worth of Glenlivet G&M 1943 at £850 each, £7,600 worth of House of Hazelwood Blended at Birth, and five drams of Karuizawa Samaroli 24-year-old, totalling £7,500. Adding to the final cost, the guest also paid an additional £26,485.60 in tax. Sharing the photo of the bill on Facebook, one user commented, 'A group of lads' bar tab from The Fife Arms, Ballater. Expensive taste, hope they enjoyed it.' Whisky enthusiasts on the platform didn't hesitate to share their thoughts on the substantial bill. One user remarked, 'Surprised they let the tab go this high or even let some of the drinks go that high. Must have known them or get them to prove they had the cash or paid as they went then printed the overall receipt.' Another user added, 'It’s a dear one, been in there a few times, pub in Braemar right in the middle, Bonny place, been on the TV a few times.' Meanwhile, another Facebook user humorously joked, 'Holy s**t that's one expensive hangover.' When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for The Fife Arms told the Daily Record, 'We would never comment regarding our guests.
