A white police officer who shot and killed her unarmed black neighbour after entering his flat was ‘justified’ because she may have been suffering from ‘officer distraction’ her trial heard.
He appeared as an expert witness to testify about a condition called ‘inattential blindness’ – something not ‘universally accepted’ in the scientific community. The jury heard again from David Armstrong of the Texas Department of Public Safety, who said Guyger ‘may not have had a normal perception’ in the tense situation.Mr Armstrong told lawyers – not in the presence of the jury – that he believed Guyger’s actions were ‘reasonable’.
Guyger told the court she was ‘scared to death’ after mistakenly believing someone was in her home, saying Mr Botham had been coming towards her quickly and using a’ ‘aggressive voice’ when she shot him twice and killed him.at the time and sent a message to say she was ‘super horny’ just moments before the shooting.
