A new cafe named after the late Barry Milne, a cancer patient who dreamed of creating a supportive space, is launching in Coatbridge. The cafe will offer a platform for cancer charities and individuals to connect people affected by cancer with resources and information.
A new collaborative mission focused on connecting people affected by cancer with sources of support is launching in Coatbridge this month. Mondo Restaurant will host Milne’s White Dove Café and is set to welcome cancer charities and individual speakers to “encourage hope, understanding and the gathering of people to share information and experience”.
The idea for the White Dove Café was conceived by, and now named in memory of, the late Barry Milne who, after attending a training course at work, was asked to prepare a business plan to present to the trainer. Barry’s selfless concept was the café - a space where people facing a cancer diagnosis and their friends and family could attend for support, focussed on the exchanging of ideas. Jim Rankine, a friend of Barry’s, and organiser of the event, said: “Barry dreamed of opening a café in his beloved Anstruther upon retirement. “This wasn’t just any café, it was to be a haven for those grieving the loss of loved ones to cancer, offering support and understanding. “It would also provide a welcoming space for cancer patients and their families to find comfort and learn about the various sources of support through different charities available to them. “Barry was taken from us too soon after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 47. “In his memory, I am launching Milnes White Dove Café at Mondo Restaurant, Coatbridg
