Officials claim it contains information that could damage national security and proper clearance procedures were not followed.
Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton is being sued by the Trump administration to prevent publication of a book about his time in the White House.
The lawsuit claims it contains classified information, would compromise national security and that Mr Bolton had failed to complete the clearance process required for any book written by former government officials. Mr Bolton's publishers claim the legal action is attempt to stop"publication of a book it deems unflattering to the President".
The lawsuit comes a day after president Trump said Mr Bolton would be breaking the law if the book was published. The court documents state that the White House National Security Council "has determined that the manuscript in its present form contains certain passages - some up to several paragraphs in length - that contain classified national security information.
