The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given a major update on the mpox virus, as the spread of the disease continues to cause concern across the globe.

Europe is grappling with a steady rise in Mpox cases, as the World Health Organisation reports at least 100 new instances each month. Health officials are on high alert following the WHO's declaration of a global health emergency last week.

Mr Kluge further stressed the importance of the response to this health crisis: "So will we choose to put the systems in place to control and eliminate mpox globally? Or we will enter another cycle of panic and neglect? How we respond now and in the years to come will prove a critical test for Europe and the world."

Professor Trudie Lang from Oxford University warned of the challenges faced by researchers, telling The Times: "There are still a lot of unknowns. We're busting our guts to try to analyse the rate of transmission, the severity of disease, outcomes, where the rash appears, how long it takes to be infectious - all of those things."
