The Masked Singer on ITV is back with a line-up of celebrities disguising themselves behind big costumes. What we know about Gargoyle?

Gargoyle had quite Scottish vibes about their dress sense – but is that too obvious? The Masked Singer has returned for its seventh season on ITV , and there’s a whole array of characters attempting to deceive the celebrity panel.

Hosted by Joel Dommett, the characters perform their musical numbers for Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama. Already we’ve seen the unmasking of Alex Jones dressed as Disc Jockey, Professor Green as Tea Bag, John Lydon as a Yak and Annie-Marie as Goldfish. This season has promised ‘more unmaskings than ever’ with 12 famous faces disguised in costume. Each episode a range of clues are peppered amongst the star’s VTs and performances, to help the audience and judges guess ‘whose that behind the mask?’ From visual prompts, to the pitch they sing in, to the set on which they perform – what hints have we gleaned from Gargoyle’s appearances? What clues are there for Gargoyle’s identity? During their performance they stood quite still, but their voice wasn’t bad Gargoyle is donning a tartan dress, with a leather jacket, a green grass mohawk and a lot of piercings – they’re punky, that’s for sure. Their song of choice was Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters – which they sang with a troop of men wearing kilts dancing energetically around them. They seemed a similar height to the male dancers – or is that their big gargoyle feet adding some inches? Their badges match up with the punk rocker vibe. The anarchy symbol and the date 1976 – peak punk times – are on display. ‘That’s my era’, said Jonathan. In their VT you could hear a distinct American accent – paired with the Scottish tartan, it’s an interesting mix. We spotted a calendar and January 13th marked with a red cross – a Saturday in this particular year… Are you All Fired Up for this guess? Also in the line-up is Red Panda, Moth, Sloth and Can of Worms – Disc Jockey has gone Gargoyle was reading a brochure titled ‘Long Summer Break Holidays’ – have they acted as a teacher at some point? Despite sounded a little older when they were singing, in their VT they claimed to have started to ‘spread their wings from an early age’. A child star who’s still on the scene? Although they might be sporting a particular look dressed as Gargoyle, they said: ‘I cross many styles – you can’t pigeon hole me.’ Amongst their belongings was a framed photo of Sally from Coronation Street – a peculiar pick for someone sounding like they’re from across the pond. A large colourful sign appeared with the words ‘no gargoyles allowed’ going round on a loop… Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud is that you with an American accent? Who could Gargoyle on The Masked Singer be? The judges had their go of guessing the identity of Gargoyle and threw a few names out there. Helen Flanagan Could the former Corrie star be fibbing us all? Helen Flanagan was a guess from Jonathan, who thought the picture of Sally Webster from Coronation Street was of huge significance. Sally’s real life daughter is the Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor, but her fictional daughter is Rosie Webster, played by Helen. Ruby Wax From I’m A Celebrity to The Masked Singer – is it Ruby? Ruby Wax was Maya’s guess, and other judges soon piped up in agreement. From the VT, Maya said she thought Gargoyle was giving Ruby energy, and perhaps her punk status in the 70s helps prove it. But is this too obvious? Mo made a good point that a gargoyle is a statue, like a wax figure… is he onto something? Frankie Bridge Some might say Frankie’s iconic hairdo was slightly punky? Mo’s final guess was Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays. He’s convinced it’s her based on the calendar which indicates that specific day of the week. The comedian and host also thought the clues, including the words ‘Girl Goyle’ printed on the back of their jacket’, pointed to somebody from a girlband. Mollie King Is Molly behind the mask? Davina shared a similar theory as Mo, but went for Mollie King from the girl group instead. The logic behind her thinking was that kings live in castles, where gargoyles are stationed. Could it be the singer-turned-radio presenter? The Masked Singer returns tonight on ITV at 7pm. Got a story?
