Some UK airports saw travel chaos after rules stopping passengers from carrying liquids of over 100ml in hand luggage were suddenly brought back in
An East Midlands Airport boss says the situation around new hand luggage rules has been "quite simple" despite chaos at other sites. Rules stopping passengers from carrying liquids of over 100ml in hand luggage were scrapped earlier this year given the introduction of high-tech CT scanners at many airports.
Ioan Reed-Aspley, the site's head of corporate affairs, said: "It's quite simple here actually because we haven't got the new security equipment in yet, the new scanners in. When you came to the airport this morning, you'll have seen there was a lot of construction work happening. That's because we're having to extend our security hall in readiness."When we get the new scanners in, they're larger, which means the building needs to be bigger.
Mr Reed-Aspley added: "Passengers do ask, they say they've heard at some airports you can increase your liquid allowance, or you can do things differently when you go through security. Our advice to passengers using East Midlands until probably next year is continue as you were.
