Luke Ryan’s intercept ability is back better than ever and Jordan Clark’s improved leadership, desire to defend and tackling pressure has been a joy to watch. That dropped to 12th last year, but, importantly, they salvaged something from 2023, turning their defence around.On average, Fremantle conceded 83 points per game, but in the final five games that dropped to just 60.
West Coast actually won the clearance battle, both in the centre at around stoppages, but what they were doing with ball in hand wasn’t anything to get excited about. Three games in and West Coast’s losing margin has grown bigger each week: 50, 65 and, most recently, 76.The Eagles’ returns this year so far have been 10 goals, five, and now just three.
