Team GB's runners will be pounding a bright lavender circuit containing seashells - here's why
The British team will be represented by 327 athletes, across a range of disciplines, all hoping to bring home a coveted medal.
Viewers may be used to seeing Olympic running tracks in a rust-red hue, but in Paris, athletes can look forward to competing on a purple track. “The look of the Games includes three colours for all the competition venues: blue, green and purple. We decided on this purple track with different tones: lighter for the track, darker for the service areas, and grey for the turns at the end of the bend, reminding of the ash-coloured tracks that were there 100 years ago for the Olympic Games Paris 1924.”The Stade de France is more than ready for the Athletics event this summer.
When it comes to running tracks, red is a popular colour as it is the most UV stable, meaning it is more resistant to fading in the sunlight. In the Mondo laboratory, resistance tests are carried out on samples of the athletes’ track
