A number of other local authorities are already saying they are introducing or increasing their premiums from next year, including Bridgend , Cardiff , Merthyr Tydfil , Monmouthshire and the Vale of Glamorgan .The Welsh government is introducing a series of measures from Saturday to take"immediate action" on making housing more affordable for people to rent or buy in their local areas.

He adds that concerns around the impact of second homes are"a phenomenon which is widespread across Britain".Beyond Wales, a campaign has been launched in Cornwall to call for affordable housing - and the impact of second homes is also seen in Yorkshire.

But the Welsh government’s concern is that the number of second homes is more concentrated in the most rural and coastal areas of Wales.
