Liverpool sold Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth for an initial £19m back in 2019
It’s taken a little while but Dominic Solanke’s performances for Bournemouth in recent seasons have seen become a bonafide Premier League marksman.
His highlight reel after just two matches of this Premier League season, where he netted in the opening day draw at home to West Ham United, has seen him draw admiring glances. West Ham, on the wrong side of Solanke’s display on matchday one, were one of those to show an interest in the striker during the summer transfer window, meanwhile Fulham were also linked with a move worth a figure between £35m and £40m.
Speaking to the ECHO, sports lawyer and author of ‘Done Deal’, Daniel Geey, who has worked on major transfers within British football during his career, explained: “It is usually, in fact in most cases, the fact that a sell-on clause exists between the selling club and the buying club. Usually regardless of a playing contract that may have been renewed, the sell-on clause will activate at any time the buying club decides to sell that player on again.
In Liverpool’s case for Solanke, with the sell-on fee understood to be 20% over and above the contingents that were put in place, the figure may not be as grand as some might think.
