Manchester City beat Brentford and drew with Inter Milan, but they have not looked as sharp and as fluid as they were before the international break. Next up: Arsenal.
When Pep Guardiola goes to great lengths to praise a Manchester City performance, that means it probably hasn't been the best performance.

Three points against Brentford and one against a very good Inter Milan side to open the Champions League league phase. But the results only tell half the story.
Ruben Dias looked a little perplexed after the game, too. When asked how close City were to their best in light of their last two performances, he replied: "The season has just started, if you really ask me that question now I'd say we're still far from our best, still. It's worth saying that in Brentford and Inter, City faced two well-drilled teams with a clear plan under talented managers. There will be easier assignments ahead. Both showed themselves to use a low block more effectively than most visitors to the Etihad, as well as utilising the counter attack better than almost every opponent City have faced in some time. Guardiola said Brentford did it better than anyone he's come up against in nine years.
Savinho was replaced at half-time after failing to offer a cutting-edge on the wing, while others struggled to make an impact in the second half. Bernardo was ineffective when moved out wide, and Ilkay Gundogan was quiet until he headed two glorious chances over the bar.
