And just like that, 49-year-old Robert Skinner left the shrimping industry and enrolled in the 74th class of the Mobile Police Department . Robert Skinner is now a Mobile Police Officer ."I was wanting to make a career change ,” says Officer Skinner, “and I wanted to do something to, hopefully, make a difference. Help people out.""The first thing we look for is someone with a servants heart ,” says Tony McCarron.

"Times have changed so much that the majority of the young people that we have right now coming into the service all have the common thing in their interview,” says McCarron. “I want to make a change. I want to make a difference in our community, which is such a great thing." And that’s important, he says, because each officer is an individual ambassador for the city with one common goal in mind:It takes a lot of patience sometimes for them to deal with us."Like, good days, bad days,” says the rookie officer, “you're gonna come across people, being there, being able to talk and listen and come up with solutions to help people. And me seeing that, it's something I wanted to do. I just had to jump at it when the opportunity came.
