Regional mayors demand Government step up as Joe Biden’s climate spending threatens to hoover up investmentThe drive to net zero will be central to, a new report from the CBI says, as mayors across the North and Midlands warned that the Government needs to step its support in the face of foreign competition.
The total contribution to the UK economy of low-carbon companies was put at £70 billion, with 840,000 jobs supported by the net-zero economy. Green jobs were found to be not only higher paying, at £42,600 compared to the national average of £32,000, but also more productive than other jobs. In the Midlands, workers in green jobs were two-and-a-half times more productive than those outside the sector.
