The Scot attended a meeting at Old Trafford last Monday and is understood to have been informed of the decision in person. The north stand was renamed the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand in 2011, a statue of Ferguson was unveiled outside the stand in 2012 and Sir Alex Ferguson Way was opened adjacent to the stadium in 2013.
