MPs have raised concerns about the impact of the new airoprt-style system.

Traffic jams like the one at the Port of Dover on 22 July will become worse once the new post-Brexit scheme kicks in Border chaos at Dover could prove even worse in the coming months as the Government prepares to enact a new post-Brexit checks system.

MPs warned that the new system could cause substantial queues, with Transport Select Committee chair Huw Merriman saying that the scheme could cause “17 mile tailbacks”. The British Embassy in Paris held meetings between UK and French border force officials in advance of the changes, with a focus on Dover, as well as the Eurotunnel terminal in Cheriton and at London St Pancras Station for Eurostar.

Doug Bannister, the chief executive of the Port of Dover, told ITV in January that he was worried about the impact of the EES checks upon delays at the terminal.
