Some of the buildings in this major road in Watford are continuing to get bigger but this is by no means a recent development.
is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall this scene in Clarendon Road
The museum's volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said:"The size of buildings along Clarendon Road has been growing since the road was first laid out in the mid-1800s. "The first houses were built up near High Street and larger detached family homes began to be built from the 1870s."In the 20th century, the change from residential to business began. Some houses were converted but eventually all were demolished, and purpose-built office blocks constructed.
"Rebuilding continues to this day with some of the original office blocks being demolished and replaced with modern blocks."
