FOR many months this newspaper backed the efforts by Theresa May and others to get a deal with the European Union. But as time has passed, it has become increasingly clear that the EU is not interested in reaching an agreement.

In truth it is a mini deal that covers medicines, citizens' rights, air travel and other vital areas as well as putting us on to World Trade Organisation terms.
